Balut Eating Contest, Brooklyn

Last Saturday August 25th, 2012 I co-hosted the first annual Balut Eating Contest sponsored by Maharlika Moderno Filipino at the Dekalb Market in Brooklyn!  This was a historic moment for Brooklyn and Filipinos worldwide!  And yes, it was Balut that brought these two forces together for a great event!  There were hundreds of spectators and 10 contestants.  It was a fun way to celebrate being Filipino in New York City.  There was also a special Cebuano lechon roast filing the air and satisfying peoples stomachs that may have been longing for a reminder of home.  I had a great time getting the crowd pumped up.  It reminded me of my days hosting several festivals back in California.  Thank you to Maharlika Moderno Filipino for allowing me to remember what I love to do!!!!

Building Bridges with Joe Bataan

On Tuesday, August 21st, 2012, I had the privilege of having lunch with the King of Latin Soul, Joe Bataan & his wife at Maharlika Moderno Filipino in the lower Eastside of Manhattan.  We talked a lot about the need to unify Filipinos across all spectrums of society.  It was refreshing to listen to Joe Bataan talk about his life and current passions!  We got work to do for our community and with God's guidance great things are coming!

Joe Bataan wrote, "FINALLY THERE IS HOPE OF A FILIPINO UNITY DAY WORLDWIDE--LET'S SUPPORT KILUSAN'S UNIVERSAL SELF'-kilusan1898@yahoo.com 'THE BIG BOSS BROUGHT US TOGETHER!" (August 22, 2012-Facebook)
